About this deal

They go inside. Clough and Tom Henry are chatting at the front desk. Judy hears the word 'penalties'. Buddy read with Hilary. We’re racing through this series. We’ve read the first 9 books in 2019, and started buddy reading them not too many books from the start. I’m hoping to make book 10 my first book finished in 2020. I have one other book to finish in 2019. I am not usually a fan of the love triangle trope, but the situation with Ruth, Nelson and Michelle is an interesting one, and about to get even more so . . . watch this space!

It is a great pleasure to return to the forensic archeologist Ruth Galloway series with the ninth in the series. It begins with Ruth entering an underground chalk tunnel in Norwich where bones have been discovered. They turn out to be boiled and speak of a recent death. Grace Miller reports seeing a Jesus like figure whilst in a car where the student occupants are all under the influence of drink and drugs. This occurs at night when a hole appears in a road. Aftershave Eddie, a homeless man, tells DCI Harry Nelson of Barbara, part of the homeless community, who has gone missing. For parking we found it easiest to park up on Braybrooke road and walk down to the chalk pit from there. Continue along the waymarked path for a further 750m, initially on enclosed paths and finally across a meadow. On the far side go out through a gate and turn left onto a road (Pilgrims Way West). Follow this main road past Broughton Manor ? and across several branches of the River Darent, rejoining the Main Walk where it becomes Otford's High Street. County council documents show a total 717 objections were received by the County Planning Authority about the planning application, as well as two petitions signed by a total of 3,320 people. The resolution of the mysteries seems, if that is possible, to be getting more far-fetched as the series progresses and this one seems particularly bizarre (as well as solved by Ruth/the police with very limited logic). The two try to fill in details, imagined and real, about the land but in the end, the second speaker declares the place to be silent. The only thing living there are themselves and the trees and between them, they’ve been able to create mystery. Ruth Galloway is called in to investigate and discovers the bones are relatively new and have been boiled. That's a sign of cannibalism and people become worried about what's going on in those tunnels. Then two homeless men are murdered and three women are abducted off the street and the police have their hands full. They discover there is a Brotherhood and secret societies using the tunnels and search is on for the missing women and the murderer.

If you do not want to visit any of the other refreshment places in the village you can take the more attractive riverside route in [ ?].• Forensic archeologist and academic Ruth Galloway is a captivating amateur sleuth-an inspired creation. I identified with her insecurities and struggles, and cheered her on. " -- Louise Penny, author of the bestselling Armand Gamache series The officers' report said: "The granting of an express planning permission covering the Certificate of Lawful Existing Use or Development area would, for the first time, give the County Planning Authority control over the operations which could take place within that specified area. Fork right onto the permissive bridleway climbing through the trees and eventually going along the top of Meenfield Wood. At the far end continue briefly alongside a hedge and then in the same direction through Pilots Wood. Ignore a footbridge across the M25 and follow the footpath as it turns left and goes down through the trees into the top of Polhill Bank.I knew about bunkers for government officials and about catacombs in Europe, but wasn't aware of so many underground cities and societies throughout the world which are described by several of the characters. In this book, there is an amazing system of mining tunnels some of which are linked between ancient churches in the area. Here is an interesting article about underground cities around the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undergr...

According to council documents, the recommendation from officers had been to grant planning permission before it was pulled from the agenda.

There is one event in particular that happens at the end of this book that has me even more curious about and eager to go on and read book 10. Michelle’s third pregnancy, when Ruth’s Kate is six. After a right-hand bend the path straightens out to head N, climbing gently with a field behind the fence on your right. Where the main path bears slightly left away from the fence and before it starts to climb more steeply, veer right onto a narrow path to stay alongside the fence. Follow this side path to the edge of the wood, still climbing gently. At the end of the walk there are three tearooms in Otford: The Olive Tree in the Hospices of Hope charity shop (01959-524322; open to 5pm Sat & Mon–Fri summer, 4pm Sun & Mon–Fri winter); Sally's Cake Emporium (01959-928447; open to 4pm Tue–Sun); and the Pond View Café (01959-522150; open daily to 4.30pm). There are also two pubs on the High Street, The Bull (01959-523198) and The Woodman (01959-522195). So, as usual, this series makes me want to rush out and dive into the next one. My intention, however, is never to wait for the next one to be published. So I may have to wait a bit! Meanwhile, DCI Nelson is hunting for a missing homeless woman, Barbara, who he hears has gone "underground." Could she have disappeared into the labyrinth? And if so, is she connected to the body Ruth found? As Ruth, Nelson, and the rest of their team investigate the tunnels, they hear rumors of secret societies, cannibalism, and ritual killings. When a dead body is found with a map that appears to be of The Underground, they realize their quest to find the killer has only just begun--and that there may be more bodies underfoot.
